Job Description: High School Science and Maths Teacher (IEB Curriculum)
Position Overview
The High School at Rosemary Hill, situated in Rosemary Hill Farm in Pretoria, is currently seeking a skilled and passionate science and maths teacher with expertise in the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) curriculum. As a science and maths teacher at our school, you will be instrumental in providing high-quality education, encouraging critical thinking, curiosity and interest and preparing students for success in the IEB examinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum Implementation: Develop and deliver comprehensive lesson plans for science and maths subjects, tailored to the requirements and standards of the IEB curriculum.
- Student Assessment: Conduct regular assessments to evaluate students' academic progress, provide constructive feedback and address individual learning needs effectively.
- Practical Skills Development: Facilitate practical experiments and hands-on activities to enhance students' scientific analysis and mathematical problem-solving skills.
- ICT Integration: Utilise educational technology and digital resources to enrich classroom experiences and support students' understanding of science and maths concepts.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment, ensuring students' engagement and active participation in the learning process.
- IEB Exam Preparation: Implement effective exam preparation strategies, including mock examinations and targeted revision sessions to prepare students for assessments and exams.
- Individualised Support: Provide personalised assistance to students who require additional help, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning atmosphere.
- Parent Communication: Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, keeping them informed about their child's academic progress, achievements and areas for improvement.
- Professional Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, resources and insights, promoting a cohesive and progressive working environment.
- Extra-curricular Involvement: Encourage students to participate in extra-curricular activities related to science and maths, such as science clubs, maths Olympiads and academic competitions.
- Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with educational advancements, IEB curriculum changes and innovative teaching methodologies to enhance your subject knowledge and pedagogical skills.
- School Events Participation: Actively engage in school events, faculty meetings and professional development sessions to contribute to the school's academic community.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Education with specialisations in science and/or maths or relevant subject-related qualifications. Postgraduate qualifications will be advantageous.
- Teaching Certification: Valid teaching certification/licensure in science and/or maths, recognised by the South African Council of Educators (SACE).
- IEB Experience: Proven experience teaching the IEB curriculum in science and maths at high school level, demonstrating a track record of successful outcomes.
- Passion for Education: A genuine passion for teaching science and maths, appreciating and nurturing intellectual curiosity and nurturing students' academic growth.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex concepts effectively.
- Technological Proficiency: Proficiency in integrating educational technology and digital tools into the teaching process.
- Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to and appreciation of the diverse cultural backgrounds and learning styles of students within the school community.
- Collaborative Spirit: Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively with colleagues, administrators and support staff.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt teaching approaches to accommodate different learning styles and individual student needs.
- Ethics and Integrity: High ethical standards, professionalism and integrity in all interactions with students, parents and colleagues.
